Barcelona based Observatori DESC (Observatory for Economic, Social and Cultural Rights) is looking for information on anti-squatting practices across Europe.<\/p>\n

From the Observatori DESC in Barcelona, we would like to write a report on the impact of anti-squat companies on the right to housing in Europe. Private companies that\u00a0 are on the edge of the law, such as Camelot in\u00a0 northern
\nEurope or Desokupa in Spain, privatize \u00bb security\u00bb and\u00a0 threaten\u00a0 tenant’s rights and stability. ‘Desokupa’ is a group of paramilitaries and members of far right groups carrying out intimidation and illegal evictions of squatters mostly around Barcelona but more recently further afield.<\/p>\n

Camelot offers \u00abvacant property services\u00bb: they\u00a0 rent empty flats or offices to \u00abtenants\u00bb\u00a0 who ensure that no one will squat the flat. Those tenants\/guardians can then be fired without any justification.<\/p>\n

Desokupa is a Catalan company that evicts violently people who don’t pay their rent or mortgage anymore.<\/p>\n

Do you have any information about these practices or similar practices in your respective countries? More precisely:<\/p>\n

– What does\u00a0 the law\u00a0 say in your country concerning tenancy at will\u00a0 and eviction processes? Are this practices allowed? Did firms like Camelot did any lobby to allow them?<\/p>\n

-Is Camelot or similar firms offering \u00abvacant property services\u00bb settled in your country?<\/p>\n

-Do you know any\u00a0 other company that practices forced evictions?<\/p>\n

-If this\u00a0 companies exist, how do associations advocating for the right to housing react? Do they protest? How?<\/p>\n
