Solidarity with Ameer! Enough of the police state! Enough of racism and
\ndeportations!<\/p>\n
Last Monday Ameer Alkhawlany, a student in Crakow of Kurdish origin, was
\narrested by border police during the \u201cCzarny marsz\u201d (pro abortion
\nrally). He is studying for his doctorate in Biology in the Jagiellonian
\nUniversity Crakow. The court ordered immediately that he should be
\nremoved to a closed detention centre for non-nationals in Przemy\u015bl.
\nDuring the quarter of an hour trial (for which he was not permitted
\ncontact with a lawyer), the court ruled that he should be deported.
\nUntil now they have not issued him with any charges.
\n<\/p>\n
Based on available information it appears that the ABW: Agencja
\nBezpiecze\u0144stwa Wewn\u0119trznego (Internal Security Agency) works for Ameer\u2019s
\nimmediate deportation from Poland. The justification for its decision
\nwas the threat of escape of the detainee and his alleged threat to the
\nsecurity of the Polish state. But nobody has announced what kind of
\nthreat it is meant to be \u2013 all information is being kept secret, even to
\nAmeer\u2019s lawyer.<\/p>\n
For a few years Ameer has lived, studied and worked in Crakow. He
\nreceived a student grant from the Polish government and there was no
\njustification for his arrest. The province of Lesser Poland had extended
\nhis residency permit until 2017 (but in fact \u2013 is this relevant?). As
\nyou can see it is enough to have an Iraqi passport and the determination
\nof the the ABW against you to be deported. All of this is due to the new
\nAnti-Terrorist Law which grants the ABW uncontrolled power.<\/p>\n
This is not the first case where the ABW under unclear circumstances has
\ntried to force non-nationals to leave Poland. In August another French
\nspeaking person of colour from Warsaw was targeted by the ABW. Officers
\n\u201cinvited\u201d this person for an interview during which they gave them a
\ndocument in Polish to sign. Up until now we do not know what was in this
\ndocument and what happened to it as it was \u201cmislaid\u201d following the
\nlawyers intervention. ABW\u2019s version of events was the same. They tried
\nto force this person to leave Poland within a month, under suspicion
\nthat this person presented a threat to the state. What exactly this
\nthreat was we never found out.<\/p>\n
In this case instant reaction and solidarity made it possible to hinder
\nthe agency\u2019s sinister repression. In the same way we have to stand with
\nAmeer. Stop racist repression!<\/p>\n

on Sunday the 9th of October, 15:00 at S\u0105d Okr\u0119gowy (High-court house)
\nin Crakow a demonstration took place. Around 100 people came to show up
\ntheir solidarity with Ameer.<\/p>\n
